End of the Mark Thu, 28 Nov 2013 12:54:52 +0000 admin The East German mark, commonly called the eastern mark was the currency of the German Democratic Republic (East Germany). Its ISO 4217 currency code was DDM. The currency was known officially as the Deutsche Mark from 1948 to 1964, Mark der Deutschen Notenbank from 1964 to 1967, and from 1968 to 1990 as the Mark der DDR (Mark of the GDR); it was referred to colloquially as simply the Mark. It was divided into 100 Pfennig (Pf).

After reunification the German Bundesbank  exchanged Deutschmarks and has continued to do so – in exchange for Euros these days – up to the present day. This includes the marks of both West and East Germany.

Now there has been a change in policy. Although there has been no public statement, sources tell us that at the end of 2013 there will no longer be exchanges possible. In other words the Ost Mark or Deutschmark will cease to persist in value at all.

The Bundesbank website today declares:

“In today’s market the Bundesbank offers You can exchange unlimited amounts of DM banknotes and coins for euro indefinitely and free of charge at all Deutsche Bundesbank branches. In certain cases, foreign banknotes and coins may be exchanged in their country of origin. The official exchange rate is set at EUR 1 for DEM 1.95583.”

Anyone with Deutsche Marks or Ost Marks had better hurry to their nearest Bundesbank branch.

It seems the German Government is keen to establish public confidence in the Euro to the extent that it will not tolerate the continued existence of deposits of Marks.

Bynes Complains of Broken Nose Thu, 11 Jul 2013 13:43:56 +0000 admin 27-year-old bizarre Jewish actress and fashion designer Amanda Bynes, who shockingly appeared in court yesterday dressed in a bright turquoise wig, has announced on Twitter that she is unable to breath due to her plastic surgery.

Written by Chris White</>

Bynes took to the social media network to inform her increasing number of Twitter-followers of the predicament, tweeting:

“My Nose Is Broken I’m Bruised I Can’t Wait For My Next Surgery”

“My Broken Nose Is Making The Bone Under My Eyes Protrude So I Won’t Stop Getting Surgery Until That Bone Is Shaved Off”

“My Surgeon Broke My Nose During My Surgery But Hasn’t Finished My Nose! It’s Still Broken And I Can’t Breathe!”

- And:

“I Hate Taking Pictures With A Broken Nose”

Bynes originally went under the surgeon’s knife to undergo an operation to remove “webbing between the eyes” she alleges she was born with, describing it as a “birth defect”.

The complaining tweets from Bynes comes just weeks after she tweeted: “I Love Surgery” and “I Plan On Having Surgery On My Whole Face Straight Up.” [sic]

In an interview with RadarOnline Bynes also spoke of her multiple breast implants which Bynes had removed for discomfort reasons, saying: “They were uncomfortable… I prefer them out.”

Having previously spoken about the use of plastic surgery Bynes has been quoted as saying: “Nothing can hold you back from living out your dreams. There’s a surgery for everything that’s wrong with you!”

Her trial for reckless endangerment for throwing a cannabis bong out of her multi-storey apartment window, after she was caught smoking pot by police, continues.

Boob-Jobs Free on NHS Wed, 10 Jul 2013 15:45:28 +0000 admin A prospective glamour model, 23-year-old Josie Cunnigham sparked public outrage when she had her 32A breast size surgically increased to a 36DD on the Britain’s publicly funded National Health Service, to the tune of £4,800 / US$7,150.

Written by Chris White

She acquired the public funding after claiming that she was being bullied due to her flat-chestedness, thus warranting the treatment on psychological grounds.

However, only 6 months since the operation the young mother of two has claimed that the implants are too big and wants them reduced in size – again it seems at taxpayer’s expense.

Cunnigham, like before is now claiming that the NHS has a responsibility to pay for the operation on grounds of psychological need, by saying that the new bust has made her too self-conscious and is preventing her from finding modelling work.

Complaining in the pages of a fashion magazine Cunnigham shamelessly declared: “They’re making my working life difficult. They’re so big I find them embarrassing and I don’t feel I can do any modelling because they’ve attracted so much negative attention. Adding: “I’m thinking about having a reduction on the NHS. I don’t want to spend my life being known as the girl with massive NHS boobs, so having smaller implants is the only option.

I’m looking in to charities that could help, but I think it’s down to the NHS because they made them so big.”

Speaking of the horrifying experiences she had had for undergoing the procedure free, with public funding Cunnigham told journalists: “People followed me in the street shouting ‘We want our money back s**t, it was so upsetting.”

Venezuela’s Racist Plastic Surgery Tue, 09 Jul 2013 13:42:19 +0000 admin A new anthropological study undertaken by Assistant Professor of Anthropology Lauren Gulbas of Dartmouth College, has been released suggesting that Black, Mestizo and racially mixed women in Venezuela are having plastic surgery in order make themselves appear more White, as a way of bolstering self-esteem.

Written by Chris White

In the new study entitled “Embodying Racism: Race, Rhinoplasty & Self-Esteem in Venezuela”, Gulbas examines how aesthetic ideals promoted by Western fashion industries and supermodels collaborated with local perceptions of race and racial superiority in urban centres such as the capital Caracas, where Western advertising is ubiquitous.

The study consisted of 63 White, Black and racially mixed women, 24 of whom had undergone full rhinoplasty operations and 39 of whom had undergone at least form of nasal surgical procedure.

Of the 39 individuals who had had a nasal surgical procedure, all of them wanted what is known in the Venezuelan cosmetics industry as the ‘la nariz perfilada’ or the “well-formed nose”, typically characterised as slender, tall and Caucasian.

Gulbas’ conclusion was that although the Venezuelan Republic’s official racial policy was one of ‘mestizaje’ or ‘racial mixing’, actual Venezuelan culture prioritises European physical and facial aesthetics above Black and Amerindian.

Writing in her study Gulbas concludes: “Rhinoplasty is offered by physicians and interpreted by patients as a resolution to body dissatisfaction and low self-esteem. Patients’ efforts to alter the nose reveal attempts to change not only how the body looks, but how it is lived. As a result, cosmetic surgery only acts as a stop-gap measure to heighten one’s self-esteem and body image.”

The trend towards specifically European orientated ethnocentricity in Latin America’s plastic surgery demands, is a controversial one for Venezuela with its 40% non-White population, with the late Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez having blamed cosmetic surgeons for pressuring Venezuelan women into undergoing unnecessary and expensive plastic surgery to make them look more European.

Mastectomy Fashion Line Mon, 08 Jul 2013 15:22:41 +0000 admin New York plastic surgeon Dr. Sharon McLaughin-Weber who herself had a double mastectomy after a lymphoma diagnosis at the age of 13, has launched a new line if lingerie aimed at helping breastless women feel sexy and attractive.

Written by Chris White

The lingerie line which is especially licensed for breastless women, is designed to accommodate a variety of prosthetics, scared tissue and other features associated with mastectomies.

The new line of mastectomy-friendly clothing comes after a petition was submitted to the Victoria’s Secret, asking the fashion brand to design similar lingerie however, despite amassing at least 120,000 signatures the brand’s directors decided not to go along with the petition claiming that the creation of such garments was,  “complicated and truly a science”.

Speaking to Fashionista, McLaughin-Weber said: “I hope that one of my bikini designs will be featured in Sports Illustrated and be worn by a model that has had a mastectomy. She can be every bit as sexy as the next woman.”

When informed of Victoria’s Secret’s decision not to produce a similar range of clothing, she said: “The statement does not make any sense to me. They have the funding, facilities, designers and consultants to produce anything they want to produce. Their pink lace bralette is three quarters of the way there anyway.”

McLaughin-Weber designs differ from conventional ones in that the elastic fabric is extra-stretchy, allowing it to accommodate prosthetics and the bras and bikinis feature an adjustable bust, so that breastless women with scar tissue can choose how much cleavage to reveal without fear of having their prosthetic breasts slipping out.

Referring to Victoria’s Secret’s decision to reject the petition to produce a line of lingerie specifically aimed at women suffering from mastectomies, McLaughin-Weber added: “I do not think mass brands have a responsibility to help fill the needs of women with mastectomies, but I would think they would want to.”

New BMI Index Racially Discriminates Thu, 04 Jul 2013 12:08:51 +0000 admin In a shock medical report public health advisers to the UK Government, have set a new, lower obesity measure threshold for British Asians, which some claim smacks of “racism”.

Written by Chris White

The new measure threshold comes as Britain’s National Institute for Health & Care Excellence (‘NICE’), issues new professional guidelines warning Britain’s non-White ethnic communities, to be especially careful with their weight, because of a higher likelihood of diseases such as diabetes.

The NICE guidelines for Asians now match those of India and of the World Health Organization or ‘WHO’.

The new British Body Mass Index or ‘BMI’ for Asians means that a 5ft 11in Asian man should now weigh below 11st 11lb (75kg), whereas a 5ft 3in woman should weigh less than 9st 4lb (59kg).

Until the new guidelines were brought in this year, experts had said that all UK adults should aim for a BMI score of no more than 25, but now the new guidelines suggest that non-White ethnic minorities should be aiming for a BMI score of no more than 23, because of the higher likelihood of certain fat related diseases among non-Whites.

Commenting on the new guidelines Dr. Rachel Pryke of the Royal College of General Practitioners said: “These are helpful guidelines that bring home the importance of tailoring guidelines to individuals, for example, we know that some ethnic groups are susceptible to different health risks.”

The new guidelines have stirred up controversy with some who claim that NICE can now be sued under British anti-discrimination laws.

Shane Warne Has Botox? Wed, 03 Jul 2013 13:40:58 +0000 admin The retired 41-year-old, Australian World cricketer and bowling champion Shane Warne, who is currently playing for the Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League, sparked rumours and controversy yesterday for two after he arrived at Hampshire’s Rose Bowl cricket stadium for two England Test Matches, with an oddly wrinkle-free face.

Written by Chris White

The rumours were sufficient to make Warne come out and deny having ever used botox injections or facelifts and to insist that his fresh youthful looks were down mainly to regular exercise, moisturisers and a healthy diet.

Last night Warne attempted to set the situation straight by commenting on social media network Twitter: “Questions re facelift/Botox etc are absolute rubbish.”

He later added on another social media site: “I am 86kg. Lost 7kg and close to being the fittest I have ever been. Fitness and being healthy is now a daily habit I feel great and never been happier in my life. I am also eating very healthily and am flattered that people think I look younger. I have worked hard over the last five months on fitness.”
